Computer:
What type of computer does my student need to bring to campus?
Hanover College strongly suggests that student computers are running Windows XP with at least 512 MB of RAM. We recommend laptops to students in order to take advantage of SkyNet (our 802.11b/g wireless network) and our HelpDesk capabilities (making it easier to transport computers if there is a problem/concern). However, many Hanover Students have desktop computers.
My student doesn't have a computer are computer labs available?
There are two (2) general use computer labs at Hanover College and several departmental computer labs.
Counseling Services:
My student sees a counselor at home will he/she be able to continue therapy on campus?
Yes, a variety of mental health services are offered by David Reetz, M.A., doctoral candidate, our full-time Counseling Services Coordinator, or by Katie Dine Young, Psy.D., HSPP, staff psychologist.
To view the Counseling Services web pages please enter HERE.
Dean of Students:
HELP! My student wants to withdrawal or transfer and the semester isn't over yet.
Please don't hesitate to contact our office if your student informs you that he/she wants to withdrawal or transfer. Usually with a little guidance we can help your student overcome these feelings. Health Services:
Does Hanover have a full-time physician on staff?
We have a full-time nurse practitioner, Georgia Hall, CRNP on duty Monday - Friday. The College does employ a local physician, Dr. Mark Totten, who is on site every Wednesday.
Can my student receive allergy shots on campus.
Yes, Health Services offer a wide range of medical services to our students. These include allergy shots, immunizations, laboratory services, and physicals just to name a few.
Important Insurance Information:
Other details you and your student should plan for before their arrival include insurance needs. The College does not carry theft or damage insurance on students' personal belongings. Some homeowner insurance policies cover students' possessions, but you should check with your insurance agent to be sure. It may be possible to add this benefit to an existing policy, or a new policy can be obtained.
A voluntary accident and sickness health insurance policy is available through the College (the American College Student Association) and we urge enrollment unless you have other coverage. The insurance plan is through United Health Care
(Dallas, Texas). You may request an informational brochure from Angie Preston at prestona@hanover.edu. Please mail your check directly to United Health Care at the address on the enrollment application.
