Academic Calendar:
When is the first day of school?
The August Experience for first-year students begins on Sunday, August 29. The first day of school for all students is Monday, September 7.
The entire academic calendar for 2008-2009 is HERE.
The academic calendar for 2009-2010 will be published in November.
Bookstore:
To visit the Hanover College bookstore online please enter HERE.
Computer:
Hanover has a 1:1 ratio between beds and network jacks in the dorms, and every building on campus has our HC Petticrew SkyNet wireless signal so there are two options for getting connected. As for an actual computer, Hanover recommends a laptop with a processor above 2.0 GHz with multiple core (Dual Core or Core 2 Duo). For memory 2 GB or more and anything over 100GB for a hard drive will be fine.
If you’re wondering whether it is better to get a computer with Windows or a Mac, the significant factors to consider are what you have the most experience with and which you are the most comfortable using.
You should know that Hanover provides its students with AntiVirus software, so you don’t need to go to the trouble of buying something. If you need an AV program to get you by until fall, we recommend the free version of AVG 8.5. Our standard for software is Office 2007 (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Etc.). If you’ll need a copy of that, it can be purchased from Microsoft for around $60 using your hanover.edu address (which will be created over the summer).
Counseling Services:
My student sees a counselor at home will he/she be able to continue therapy on campus?
Yes, a variety of mental health services are offered by David Reetz, Ph.D., our full-time Counseling Services Coordinator, or by Katie Dine Young, Psy.D., HSPP, staff psychologist.
To view the Counseling Services web pages please enter HERE.
Dean of Students:
HELP! My student wants to withdraw or transfer and the semester isn't over yet.
Please don't hesitate to contact our office if your student informs you that he/she wants to withdraw or transfer. Usually with a little guidance we can help your student overcome these feelings. Please call (812) 866-6840 for Katy Lowe Schneider, Director of First-Year Programs or call (812) 866-7075 for David Yeager, D.Min. our Dean of Students.
Financial Assistance:
My student wants to attend Hanover College but I'm not sure if we can afford it.
For more information about Hanover College costs, please call the Office of Admission & Financial Assistance at
(800) 213-2178 or email them at admission@hanover.edu.
Health Services:
Does Hanover have a full-time physician on staff?
We have a full-time nurse practitioner, Georgia Hall, CRNP on duty Monday - Friday. The College does employ a local physician, Dr. Mark Totten, who is on site every Wednesday.
Can my student receive allergy shots on campus.
Yes, Health Services offer a wide range of medical services to our students. These include allergy shots, immunizations, laboratory services, and physicals just to name a few.
Important Insurance Information:
Other details you and your student should plan for before their arrival include insurance needs. The College does not carry theft or damage insurance on students' personal belongings. Some homeowner insurance policies cover students' possessions, but you should check with your insurance agent to be sure. It may be possible to add this benefit to an existing policy, or a new policy can be obtained.
A voluntary accident and sickness health insurance policy is available through the College (the American College Student Association) and we urge enrollment unless you have other coverage. The insurance plan is through United Health Care
(Dallas, Texas). You may request an informational brochure from Angie Preston at prestona@hanover.edu. Please mail your check directly to United Health Care at the address on the enrollment application.
