Hanover College Student senate
First-Year Senate Position
Rachel Slade
What leadership roles have you held and how will they help
you as a Student Senator?
My leadership roles began in 6th grade as a Student Council
Representative and progressed from there into Junior High where I served
as a representative in 7th grade and Treasurer of Student Council in
8th grade. In High School, my leadership roles and growth as a leader
continued while serving as Freshmen and Sophomore Class President, Junior
Class Officer while serving as Vice-President of Student Council and
finally Senior Class Officer and also serving as President of Student
Council. As a Student Council officer, I represented StuCo on the Athletic
Leadership Council. In this role I was able to plan activities to unite
athletics with school events, such as Pep Rallies, to bring together
the entire student body as one in school spirit. Other events included
Dodgeball tournaments, Mock Car Crash, and Homecoming events. In the
Milford Community, I was honored to be chosen to serve as the student
representative to the Milford-Miami Township Drug Free Coalition. My
responsibility was to organize a student summit at Milford High School
to include students from grades 7-12 to discuss substance abuse issues.
These leadership roles have taught me many life skills that will serve
me well such as being responsible for meeting my obligations and for
my actions, time management, patience with others, being accommodating
to the needs of others, listening to and being considerate of others
views and opinions, and punctual, being where I need to be on time.
What attributes do you believe a Senator should have?
Attributes a Senator should have include eagerness to jump
in and hit the ground running, polite, confident in their beliefs and
opinions, encouraging to all members and those they represent, and willing
to do what others may be hesitant to do, within reason! The student
body should be able to trust their Senators, so integrity is a most
important attribute.
Why do you wish to serve on the Hanover College Student Senate?
Being involved in school leadership roles has been a huge
part of my high school career. I would like to continue to be involved
in a leadership role as part of my college experience. This experience
will also lend itself to my major in Organizational Leadership. I love
to help others and be involved in events and activities that will contribute
to a greater Hanover experience for everyone!!
