Hanover College observes a deferred recruitment process. First-year students are not eligible to accept an invitation of membership until after completing one term of study at Hanover College. This allows incoming students to adjust to life at Hanover, get involved in the community, and learn about what Greek life has to offer them.
During Fall term Panhellenic Council and sorority chapters will hold events for first-year students to help them get acquainted with the Sorority community here at Hanover. Each first-year student will be assigned a Recruitment Counselor (also called a Gamma Chi), an affiliated women whose job is to provide information and assist first-year students through the recruitment process. Recruitment counselors have regular meetings with those women assigned to them and organize activities with the chapters for the group. Recruitment counselors disaffiliate from their chapters during the Fall term and through the formal recruitment process.
The Panhellenic recruitment process is a mutual selection process. The last two events of the formal process, chapters will invite women to their events. After the third event, women will rank the chapters in order of their preference. The women's preferences and the chapter's preferences will be matched. These matches will result in a formal invitation of membership (bid) to be issued.
