GENERAL BREAK INFORMATION
Hanover College is open for Fall break and officially closes for breaks at Thanksgiving, Christmas, Winter Break and Spring Break. The college is closed during the summer from the day of commencement through the official opening of school the following fall. When the College is closed, many facilities, including Dining Services, may not be available to students. All living units will close at 6:00 p.m. and reopen at 10 a.m. on the designated dates. Students are expected to leave and return to campus during the designated times.
In order to stay on campus during the break, stay late on campus after the halls close or return early to campus before the halls open, ALL students must submit a request to the Office of Student Housing by the designated deadline to be at least 48 hours in advance or by the given deadline for the individual break. It is the student's responsibility to notify the Office of Student Housing of their intent. Failure to do so may result in administrative fees of up to $50 charged to the student's account. Requests are to be submitted online through a survey located on MyHanover.
The College will provide housing for international students, student teachers, and those involved in official activities related to the College such as athletics, admissions office recruiting or academics such as IS preparation and Internships at no additional cost. Students from distant locations must also request permission from the Office of Student Housing if they anticipate the need to remain on campus during breaks. Staying to work a local job is not sufficient reason to stay over break and will be denied.
Students that have more than 2 alcohol violations or who have been on judicial probation may be denied permission to stay during breaks! Students found violating college policy while on campus during a break may be asked to leave campus for the remainder of the break.
Due to issues related to safety, housekeeping and the physical plant, there are tighter restrictions on students staying on campus during a break. Additionally, many students who stay on campus stay, due in part to commitments and involvements in official college related activities. Because there is the need to house students during a break for these official reasons ALL students must complete a break survey through MyHanover to get permission to stay for any part of a break.
