Connect with your new Home Away from Home
Your first year on campus is likely to be a bit overwhelming as you become acclimated to your new experience away from home. At Hanover College, we'll help ease your transition with living environments dedicated specifically to first-year students.
These first-year only residence areas give you the chance to adapt to college life with people who are experiencing the same anxieties and concerns as you. Together, you'll become familiar with the campus, how residence life works, and discover ways in which you can contribute positively to the Hanover community. The layout of the facilities encourages safe, friendly, comfortable interaction to help enhance your first year experience. You will be amazed at how quickly you connect with others and make new friends!
The positive student life atmosphere and residence life programming provides the perfect setting for creating lifelong memories. Your residence hall will become more than a place to sleep and study. You'll also participate in programming designed to enhance your academic, personal, and social growth.
First-year housing also offers a low student-to-staff ratio—typically 20 students per resident advisor (RA). Resident advisors are undergraduate students, too. The First-Year residence life staff is selected and trained to work specifically with first year students, so that means you'll get the support, understanding, and guidance you need when you need it the most.
And, of course, you'll find the usual residence hall amenities in this special environment: Newly redecorated and furnished rooms (bed, dresser, wardrobe and desk) with access to the Internet and campus network, as well as cable.
Here's how first-year housing works:
- First-year students who move on campus for the fall semester will live in first-year housing for two semesters.
- First-year students who move on campus for the spring semester will live in first-year housing for one semester.
- Students who completed college course work while still in high school will be considered a first-year student regardless of the amount of college credits earned.
- Students may not return to the first-year housing environment in the fall of the following academic year or any subsequent term unless hired as a Residence Life staff member or with special permission from the Director of Housing.
- First year students are not eligible to live in suite style residence halls (Ogle & Greenwood) or Greek houses. This option becomes available in the second year.
First Year Housing consists of Jordan House, Donner, Ide, Katherine Parker (KP), and Blythe.
