Safety and Security Tips for the Residence Halls:

•  Always lock your door when you are gone and at night while you are sleeping.
•  Always keep your keys with you, hiding them while you are on a walk or running is a good way to have your keys stolen along with items in your room.
•  Watch out for people who will piggyback into the residence hall. This is when they come in through the door that you have just opened. It is fine to let someone that you know into the building, but watch for people that you do not recognize. Recommend that they use the lobby phone to call the person that they are there to visit.
•  All guests of the building must be escorted by someone who lives in the building.
•  Record serial numbers of major electronics, such as computer, i-pod, stereo, television. This is helpful in recovering items if they are stolen.
•  Follow break closing procedures which includes locking windows, closing blinds on the first floors etc. This will deter thieves from breaking in while the halls are closed.
•  Always report suspicious behaviors and people to campus security at extension 7999.
